Abstract

The article focuses on the growing problem of chronic pain around the world, provides data on pain prevalence, burden on healthcare systems and the level of associated economic costs in different countries. Article also highlights the place of chronic pain in the new version 11 of International Classification of Diseases and justifies chronic pain as a disease in its own right. Analysis of the basic problems of effective pain management in the world and Ukraine is made and concrete steps to solve these problems are proposed.
