Welcome address

Dear colleagues, authors, and readers of Ukrainian Medical News!

I am keen to share the good news with you which, unfortunately, is rare in our professional realm in a tough time for Ukrainian medicine and our country.
Through the consolidated efforts of many concerned doctors united in the Ukrainian Medical Association (UMA) and professional publishers, we are all able to renew the publication of the first Ukrainian medical journal – “Ukrainian Medical News”, founded way back in 1918 with the proactive engagement of the great doctor hygienist and organizer, minister of public health and welfare of the Ukrainian People’s Republic, academician Ovksentii Korchak-Chepurkivskyi. The quote from his pioneering article “Our Current Tasks” published in the journal’s first issue is over 100 years old, but it is still highly relevant: “A new life has begun in Ukraine. A medical staff which is always close to the people is united with them by one goal – to protect their health from diseases and help the people in the fight against them, cannot help but respond to new global events that have also affected our citizenship. Together with the people, we, doctors, and other medical personnel must take part in creating a new life”.
I sincerely hope the renewed journal will become a standard reference for health officials and managers, colleagues with active citizenship, and those who want to stay up to date with modern Ukrainian medical life.
Today, the unification of Ukrainian doctors has become not only the need of the hour but also an urgent need for the survival of our profession.
I believe that in our journal, every colleague will not only find valuable information necessary for an educated person but also will be able to share their thoughts and developments with a wide Ukrainian medical audience.
I know that our colleagues have long been waiting for a multidisciplinary medical periodical that would not serve the authorities but would be an advisor and mouthpiece for the life of an ordinary Ukrainian doctor.
I believe that the mission of our journal should include educational work and the restoration of the prestige of our noble profession, the liberation of doctors from the bureaucratic shackles of “professional slavery” by introducing genuine medical self-government.
We aim to make the journal modern, valuable, popular, and relevant. Together with you, our readers, we can do it.
The above is our primary task as editors of the updated “Ukrainian Medical News”!
